Homework Tips

Homework Tips!

By: Mike Byrnes

Homework is without a doubt, the most dreadful part of college. Not only do you need to sit in class all day, but you then have extra work to do in your spare time as well. When taking five or six classes, homework can quickly pile up, so you must stay ahead of it. After completing my first semester of college, I learned a couple tips to complete my homework in a short amount of time, and on time.
Every professor assigns homework, and sets a date in which it must be turned in. Due to the fact that many students have jobs and are involved in other on and off campus activities, it can be difficult to leave yourself enough time to finish all of your homework.

Like most college students, I am involved in a number of activities. I quickly realized that finding enough time to finish all of my homework was a challenge. I would come home late at night and put a football or basketball game on, and distract myself with friends or my phone. Therefore, I decided  to start waking up early before school to finish up homework. The key is to get as much homework done as you can right after your last class of the day, and then finish up the rest either at night or in the morning. If you leave all your homework to the night before, you set yourself up for failure.

I also think that it's important to be in a quiet place like the library or an empty dorm room with the television off. Doing homework when friends are over will not only make yourself procrastinate, but the quality of work will suffer as well. I also think that you should put your phone away and on silent while doing homework. Obviously, nobody wants to do that, but it will help you get your homework done faster. Think about how many times you stop during homework to text, go on Twitter, Facebook, and etc.

Rasmussen College provides a list of the top 10 must know study tips, which includes creating study groups, establishing a routine, and finding a quiet place to do your homework. Creating a study group is always helpful because your peers can answer any questions that you may have. A routine is great because you will get used to getting your homework done at a certain time, so you will have time to complete everything. Lastly, I feel that a quiet place is necessary because it is the only way that you will be focused and concentrated on your work. I believe that if you follow these easy tips, you will find that you will have an easier time getting your homework done!
