Studying tips

Studying Tips

Studying is something we all dread. It is tiring and sometimes we just have no motivation to do it. Between our busy daily schedules and other responsibilities, it is hard to find time to study. Preparing for a test can also be stressful. When we have a lot of school work packed on and only a short time to complete it all, it can be very troublesome. I find that studying requires a lot of focus and time. I have to be in the right mind set to retain the information that I am studying. Over time I have learned some tips to studying.
Some tips that I have acquired are:
-Do not cram or procrastinate. This is not a good way to retain information. When I procrastinate this stresses me out and I cannot focus on the material.
-Organize your material. I find that reading my notes and rewriting them helps me retain the information.
-Make flash cards. By making flashcards this helps me with terms or vocabulary words.
-Study in the evening or night because you retain more information. When you sleep on the information that you are studying you retain it better. When you cram in the morning before the test you will lose the information quicker.
-Study in a quite location. If you study in a quiet location you mind is more focused and less distracted.
-Stay away from your cell phone! Multitasking does not help when it comes to studying. Talking to friends or going on facebook or twitter is a huge distraction and will take time away from your study time.
-Take frequent breaks every 30 minutes. You should take a break so you don’t strain your eyes or brain. I find that when I take a step back from my work for a few minutes I see it with new eyes and are more apt to pay attention.
-Make sure you are not hungry. When I am trying to study and I am hungry I cannot get my mind off of food. I have to be full in order to be comfortable enough to study.
-Stay away from any distractions. Music, movies, television, social networks and talking to friends or family is another distraction that will take away from your studying.
-Re-write notes. I find that when I re-write my notes I remember what we went over in class and I also understand the material and the repetition helps me remember the information.
-Study in a comfortable setting. You should be comfortable when studying; temperature, setting etc. I like to be comfortable but you can’t be too comfortable or else you will fall asleep! Studying at a desk helps with not falling asleep.

  1. Hayley, I like and agree with your blog post. I have to take a lot of breaks, no distractions, and always have food in my stomach. These are very helpful tips and it’s good to read them to yourself every once and a while to keep your studying on target and make sure you’re not wasting your time! Organization is the biggest key to my success, I have to have all of my stuff in exact order and neat or else I won’t be able to focus. Procrastination is the worst thing to do but I do my best work during the last few hours. It’s something to work on and you can only get better at it if you stay consistent. The only way I can avoid it is by doing the work the day it’s given or else its last minute; kind of like this response.
