As we all know being a student is
very hard, especially when you’re in your freshman year of college. Going from high
school level classes to jumping into college level classes is a big adjustment
to make and not everyone is able to make that adjustment smoothly. I know this
from experience, the first few months of college was really hard for me because
I was extremely busy with soccer practices/games every day, getting used to
living on my own, and most importantly, getting used to college level classes. Because
of these things that I was going through it was becoming hard to focus on
school and keep my grades up. I desperately wanted to become a better
student/athlete ,so, some of the things that I learned that I had to be able to
do was first take a deep breath and relax, because over stressing wasn’t going
to help- if anything it would make it ten times worse.
Next, learn to manage my time better; I had to
learn how to set up certain times in the day for studying and doing homework. The next tips that I am going to talk about
are very important when you’re trying to be a better student. Finish assignments before the class meets
again ( don’t procrastinate) , go to all of your classes, look over your notes
right after class so that the information stays in your head- this is a great
tool so that your constantly remembering the information. Go to the library to study, if your school has
tutors on campus- make sure you sign up for sessions if you find yourself
struggling with a class.

I can totally relate to how hard the adjust was from high school level classes to college levels. Especially with soccer, school was definitely a challenge with late practices and getting home from games on school nights really late. Procrastinating was one of the hardest things not to do during soccer season, especially when you just want to sleep and put off studying for the test for another day. Getting your homework and assignments done ahead of time gives you the freedom to not even have to worry about when your going to have to do it the night before. Even going to class can be a big struggle when you were up late doing homework, or even just having practice till 10 at night. But as long as you keep on all of your stuff you don't have to worry about rushing to do it later and not putting your full effort in the assignment.
ReplyDeleteI can really relate to how hard of an adjustment it was for me to go from doing really easy high school classes to high level and hard college level courses. It was also especially because I play two sports here at Nichols with playing field hockey and softball can sometimes be too much even though they are in different seasons. College school work was a lot different than what I was expecting it to be. I found it to be really hard to get all of my work done on time between having late practices and getting back to campus from games on school nights really late. For me personally I am a huge procrastinator and it played a huge factor during any sport season for me. This semester I’ve learned to control and manger my school work so much better than I did first semester and I definitely learned my lesson about doing my school work and how important it is to do well.
